Shower Enclosure and Tray Compatibility: Approve the Interface Before Ordering
Short answer: confirm the enclosure channel, tray edge, finished wall, adjustment range, threshold and seal path as one interface. The same nominal width does not prove that the enclosure can sit level on the tray or control water at the corners.
Overlay the tray section and enclosure installation drawing before the purchase order is released.
| Interface | Evidence | Risk if missing |
|---|---|---|
| Tray edge | Flat landing, radius or upstand section | Channel bears on an unsuitable surface |
| Finished wall | Actual wall faces and tile build-up | Nominal opening is wrong |
| Adjustment | Minimum and maximum enclosure range | Installer forces the profile into tolerance |
| Threshold | Door sweep and water-control detail | Water leaves at the entrance |
| Seal line | Compatible seal and substrate | Gaps or trapped moisture appear |
Make the enclosure’s reference line explicit
State whether dimensions are taken from the tray outside edge, internal landing, finished wall or channel centreline. Include corner conditions and the waste position. If the tray is cut, show which edges remain approved for the enclosure.
Do not solve a mismatch by adding a thick bead of sealant or shifting the enclosure beyond its adjustment range. Those actions can create a cosmetic joint while leaving the load and water-control path wrong.
Buyer FAQ
Can an enclosure from another brand fit the tray?
Possibly, but only after the sections, adjustment and seal path are checked.
Is the tray size enough for ordering?
No. Finished walls, edge profile and enclosure dimensions are also required.
What should be signed before production?
Tray and enclosure drawings with a marked interface section and responsibility for site dimensions.
