Acquabella identifies custom-cut capability on selected products. Duravit states a specific side-trimming allowance for its Sustano tray made with DuroCast Nature. These are useful examples precisely because their permissions are product-specific. They do not create a rule for all composite trays.
The eight-point cut approval
1. Approved model and drawing revision
Record the complete model code and the drawing revision. Do not approve cutting from a generic range brochure.
2. Permitted cut zone
The marked-up drawing should show which edge can be cut, maximum material removal and the minimum remaining distance from the drain, rim, falls, reinforcement and enclosure landing zone.
3. Tool and blade
Define the approved tool, blade type, cutting speed or feed guidance, support method and dust-control requirement. “Use a saw” is not an installation procedure.
4. Cut direction and protection
Identify which face is cut from, how the finished surface is protected and how chipping or delamination is inspected.
5. Exposed-edge treatment
Confirm whether the edge must be sealed, coated, polished, capped or concealed. If no treatment is required, obtain that statement in writing for the exact construction.
6. Support after cutting
Cutting can change the perimeter bearing or underside support area. The installation drawing must show continuous support, bedding or framing after modification.
7. Enclosure and waterproofing interface
The new edge must still provide the required wall junction, seal path and enclosure landing width. Recheck the finished opening and profile adjustment after the cut.
8. Warranty boundary
State who is authorised to cut, what evidence must be retained and which failures remain covered. A site cut should not be approved through a sales chat that never reaches the installer.
