Shower Tray Load and Deflection: What Evidence Should a Buyer Request?
Short answer: a shower tray load claim is meaningful only with the model, support method, load position, duration, deflection criterion and acceptance condition. A headline kilogram figure cannot prove that a different size or installation will behave the same way.
Request the test or design evidence with its boundary conditions. Compare like with like before using the figure in a private-label datasheet.
| Evidence | Questions to ask | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Model and size | Which tray and dimensions were tested? | Geometry changes stiffness and span |
| Support | Full bed, feet, frame or other method? | The load path is installation-dependent |
| Load position | Centre, edge, drain zone or distributed? | Local stress can differ materially |
| Deflection | What limit and measurement method? | “Passed” is meaningless without a criterion |
| Duration | Instant, sustained or repeated load? | Time and repetition can reveal different behaviour |
Do not copy one model’s support detail
The support article, installation guide and test evidence must align. A tray tested on continuous support cannot automatically be installed on isolated legs. Conversely, a model designed for a specific frame should not be bedded with a different material without approval.
At site, inspect the substrate, support contact and level before the load is concealed. Photograph the installed support and keep the record with the model and batch.
Separate load evidence from impact, slip and waterproofing
A load test does not automatically cover impact resistance, walking-surface slip, drain sealing or waterproofing. Keep each claim attached to its own evidence and limitation.
Buyer FAQ
Is a higher load rating always better?
Not if the support method, test condition or use case is different.
Can a distributor publish a single load number for a range?
Only when the manufacturer’s evidence explicitly covers that range and condition.
What should be checked during installation?
Support continuity or approved support points, level, movement, waste connection and photographic evidence before closure.
