Out-of-Plumb Shower Walls: Adjust, Pack or Rework?
Short answer: an enclosure adjustment range is not permission to absorb any out-of-plumb wall. Measure the finished opening high, middle and low; record wall plumb, tray level and diagonals; then compare every result with the exact product limits.
Nominal width answers “which size family?” Finished geometry answers “will this door align, seal and operate?”
Separate four geometric conditions

Measure after finishes are complete
- Confirm tray or floor finish is complete, stable and sealed.
- Measure the finished opening at the heights named by the supplier—or at least high, middle and low for screening.
- Record plumb on each fixing line and level on each landing.
- Measure diagonals for a corner enclosure.
- Map obstructions: radii, upstands, handles, niches, tiles and pipe zones.
- Overlay the product's minimum/maximum adjustment and fixing depth.
Choose the right response
- Adjust: only when all finished dimensions stay inside the model limits and engagement remains safe.
- Pack: only with a manufacturer-approved profile or designed substrate correction, not loose hidden pieces.
- Rework: when the wall, tray or threshold lies outside the controlled envelope.
- Change product: when a different architecture offers a suitable verified range.
Do not force glass or rails into square with fixing screws. Adjustment should not twist glass, reduce gasket contact or move screws to the edge of the intended substrate.
A small site case
A recess measures 1000 mm at the tray and 1008 mm near the top. The selected door is listed for a width range that appears to include both numbers, but the manual also limits wall deviation and profile engagement. The purchase should not be released until the full geometry—not two isolated widths—is confirmed.
