Shower Enclosure Bottom Track: Keep the Drainage Path Open
Short answer: the lower rail, threshold and wall profiles may receive incidental water by design. Their slots, channels and open joints must return that water to the tray. Blocked drainage can look like a tray or silicone failure even when the entry point is higher in the frame.
Do not clean, drill or seal a slot until the profile section identifies its function. It may be a drain, fixing access, assembly feature or cosmetic opening.

Diagnose before altering
- Photograph all openings and sealant before cleaning.
- Remove only loose dirt using the approved care method.
- Test the tray-to-wall junction separately from the enclosure.
- Introduce water to one glass/profile zone at a time.
- Observe whether water returns to the tray and where it first crosses outside.
- Compare the result with the exact sealing and assembly diagrams.
Common causes with different remedies
- Construction debris blocks a designed return channel.
- Silicone is applied to the inside base and traps water in the frame.
- An end block, cap or gasket is missing or reversed.
- The threshold is not level, so water travels to one corner.
- The shower spray hits a door gap beyond the enclosure's containment boundary.
Because the symptoms overlap, “re-silicone the bottom” is not an adequate diagnosis.
A small site case
Water appears beneath a slider after five minutes. The external silicone looks intact. Inspection finds grout dust inside the bottom rail and a continuous inside bead covering the return gap. Record the condition, confirm the model's intended drain path, then clean or reseal only as authorised before a staged retest.
