Will the Enclosure Fit?
A catalogue size is a product family label. The fitting decision happens in the finished opening.
Tiles, wall panels and upstands can reduce the space. Walls can lean. A tray can be out of level. A quadrant curve can differ. The enclosure only fits when the final site dimensions and exact product adjustment agree.
Measure after the relevant finishes
For a recess, measure from finished wall to finished wall at low, middle and high positions. For a corner, measure from each finished wall to the approved tray edge or installation line. Record the height and check both walls for verticality.
MERLYN's published guidance distinguishes nominal tray size from “tray finish”, notes that tile and upstand details can reduce the remaining space and recommends measuring after the tray and wall finishes are installed.
Use the smallest and largest relevant dimensions
Compare the opening to the manufacturer's stated minimum and maximum fitting range.
- The smallest opening must not be below the approved minimum.
- The largest opening must not exceed the approved maximum.
- Wall lean must remain inside the product's compensation method.
- Door and seal alignment must remain correct after adjustment.
Do not assume the adjustment is available equally on both sides. Determine whether the catalogue range is the total product range, per-profile travel or another convention.
Adjustment is not a repair for poor preparation
Profiles and roller cams can compensate for limited site variation. They cannot reliably correct an out-of-level tray, the wrong quadrant radius, insufficient wall support or a fitting line outside the tray's approved landing zone.
Kohler notes that roller adjustment can correct defined out-of-plumb door alignment on a particular system. The same guidance requires the safety-related roller hardware to be installed and secured correctly. Adjustment and retention must be treated together.
