How to Choose a Bathtub Material for Retail and Project Ranges

There is no universally “best” bathtub material. There is a best fit for a channel, price position, installation method and after-sales model.

Generic labels are not enough. “Acrylic”, “mineral composite”, “solid surface” and “steel enamel” can describe very different constructions, weights, surfaces and repair routes. Start with the exact product build-up.

1. Controlled material description

Request the material name, cross-section and finish system. Duravit describes sanitary acrylic as a formed sheet that is reinforced after moulding. Its DuroCast mineral-composite families use different formulations and surface systems. Kaldewei describes steel-enamel products as a formed steel body coated with enamel.

These examples show why a product should not inherit another brand's material story merely because both are called “composite” or “enamel”.

2. Construction

Identify single-shell, reinforced shell, two-shell, framed or another structure. Record how the inner bathing shell, outer skirt, base and rim are joined and supported.

Request controlled drawings, material declaration, functional reports required by the target market, surface tests, installation manual, repair procedure, spare drain/overflow parts and a written warranty boundary.
